- While holding down "display"
- Press "off", then
- Press "Up" arrow
- Release "display" button
This enters the VIP mode which turns off the motion sensor, and allows a lower range of the thermostat so you can get the room really cold.

In most cases a ceiling fan does a god job. But sometimes you do want a blast of air, directed straight at you, when ceiling fan is handy.
Point, aim.. and turn on

On one occasion I called Housekeeping to see if they had any fans and the nice guy said that they weren't supposed to loan out the one they had but he'd bring it up anyway. Naturally he got a very nice tip. (And yes I believed what he told me as the front desk had already told me very abruptly that they didn't have any fans for guest use. I called Housekeeping hoping to hear a different answer.)
If we're on a driving trip we stick a floor fan in the trunk and haul it in to the hotel if needed. Really makes a difference.
Returning to the topic of this thread, the instructions for entering VIP mode made all the difference in the world when we stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. Every morning before we left I'd turn the temperature up so we wouldn't get found out. At night I'd get the room nice and cool. Same thing at an Atlanta Hilton Garden Inn. There maintenance had to come in the room on short notice and the guy knew right away what we had done. He just smiled and said "You must stay in Hiltons a lot." Nice man.
Sorry.. I missed this one.. you turn up the thermostat at Hilton Hawaiian Village and its cool in the evening? Or how does that work?

Sorry I wasn't more clear. If you look at post 36 above in this thread (see link below) you'll see instructions that work with at least some of the thermostats at Hilton Hawaiian Village. Once you have the thermostat in VIP mode you can turn the temperature lower and cool the room down. I only turned the temperature back up during the day to save energy and so it wouldn't be obvious what we'd done. Some hotels might object I suppose.

^ haha! What a great movie!
It turns out this one is tricky as its temperature min/max is set by a central computer in the hotel. I don't think it can be overridden at the keypad. Fortunately I won't have to go back there for a while.

you know, you can just keep any plastic card in there and it will work, it doesn't have to be the room card...
Perfect use for expired loyalty cards!

Love it. I am in the Lake Buena Vista Hilton and the Tstat would not go lower than 70. I googled to find an override and it took me here, YEAH and the override worked!

A use for that expired Status card!

SensorStat-DDC (latest is "2-F) responds to what DDC Terms a "Soft Bypass" for VIP guests (quote from the DDC SensotStat 2-F manual):
"At times it may be necessary to bypass the energy management
features of the SensorStat. Typically this is done when a guest
complains that the room temperature is not kept at the set point
when not in the room. To bypass the unit, press the Power and
Cooler buttons at the same time. The display will show BP
which means bypass. The SensorStat will act as a thermostat
only for 48 hours. To cancel Soft Bypass mode, press the Power
and Fan buttons at the same time. The display will show CA.
The SensorStat will automatically cancel soft bypass mode after
48 hours."

The mylar balloon trick worked !
I stayed at a pricey resort in Jamaica for a week that had the air conditioning and all the electricity in the room hooked up to motion sensors. The name was Robot RC 6615 Room Control-SiSNet. Many of the hotel reviews complained about the rooms being so hot and humid and the drinks being warm in the refrigerator when you returned to the room. I hung a mylar balloon (shiny silver helium balloon) that I got at a dollar store from the blade of the ceiling fan. I ran the ceiling fan on low because the balloon was getting caught up if it was run faster. I didn't bother to inflate the balloon. The trick worked. The electricity (fan kept running) and air conditioning stayed on in both of our connecting rooms. But a few tips: during the day the curtains needed to be wide open for this to work, in the evening all 4 of the lights in the room had to be on if you were leaving to watch a show. This system needed to have enough light reflecting off the balloon to work so it wasn't strictly motion. The cleaning lady looked at it one day. I told her it was my daughter's disco ball. She laughed and never took it down so we were comfortable the whole week.

Thanks for posting this. Worked wonders on an Inncom thermostat at the Marriott Philadelphia Downtown. I was able to change the thermostat from 65 to 60 and let it cool down while we were out watching the fireworks show tonight. A/C is mildly underpowered, so the room still isn't as cool and dry as I'd like, but it's better than it otherwise would be.
Thanks!

Anyone know how to bypass these? Staying at the Andaz in Amsterdam and they seem to have misconfigured their system... Unoccupied rooms are at a nice 18.5C, as soon as they check you on it gradually warms to 22C and won't go below it (even with 18C set).

Amana window units
I ran into an Amana window unit that wouldn't go lower than 60 degrees (and the room wouldn't go below about 70 degrees). Also, the fan would shutoff when the thermostat fell below 60 degrees - even though it was set on high. The unit looked like this:
I removed the cover and found the thermostat lead (the black cable), and placed it in a pot of water on the coffee pot. I turned the coffee pot on and it heated the water well above 60 degrees, and the A/C ran all night.
