Based on the game Spot it, this 55-card game is a fun way to have your students practice their French more in depth French food vocabulary! This set includes basic foods from all of the various food groups (dairy, grains, protein, fats, condiments, drinks, fruits and vegetables) and is almost TWICE the size as my other games. I originally made this game for my upper level unit on healthy eating. Just print out the cards double-sided, cut and laminate them (or print them on heavier stock paper and skip the laminating), and you are ready to play! The game also includes a vocabulary reference sheet you can print and add to the game. This game is a HUGE hit in my classroom and it a great way for student to improve vocabulary recognition, speed, and accuracy! It also works great as a fast-finisher activity (or sub plan) to review old vocabulary from previous units and years.
This game can be played in groups of 2 to 4 students. There are many ways you can play this game (two of which are written on one of the extra game cards):
Version 1: Each player starts with 1 card. The remaining cards are in a draw pile in the center. A player flips over the top card from the draw pile. The first player to correctly find the match between his/her card and the flipped card and to yell it out in Spanish, takes the card and places it on top of his/her pile. For the next round, they will use their new card.
Version 2: Players start with no cards and one large pile in the center. Two cards are flipped over from the pile. The first person to pick out the match and say it in Spanish gets both cards. Two new cards are flipped over. Once all the cards are gone, the winner is the player with the most cards.
Version 3: You can also have students deal out all of the cards but 1 and then play to see who can get rid of their cards the fastest.
Extra challenge? Have students speak in complete sentences instead of just the word.
